THE ART OF RESISTANCE

In honour of International Women’s Week “The Art of Resistance” exhibition aims to explore art as a means for activism and political resistance.

We are looking for artwork in any medium that implicitly seeks the global advancement of social, political and economic justice, and we understand that these struggles begin at home. We regard our community as one voice among many, calling for integrated and thoughtful challenges to sexism, racism, imperialism, classism, capitalism, war, environmental destruction, as well as hierarchy and oppression in all its forms. We are looking for art that decolonizes, inspires change, cultivates dissent and creates pause for thought in all areas relating to gender equality and social justice.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: February 4, 2010 by 4:00 pm

This exhibition will coincide with many International Women’s Week events relating to cultural activism organized by the Department of Gender Equality and Social Justice at Nipissing University, the Department of Fine Arts and Performing Arts at Nipissing University, the Near North Mobile Media Lab and WKP Kennedy Gallery.

VOICES OF LIGHT

Near North Voices presents the Northern Ontario premiere of Voices of Light at St. Andrew's United Church, Algonquin at Cassells, Sat., Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Near North Voices, under the direction of Dr. Adam Adler, is pleased to be partnering with the North Bay Symphony for this performance. Members of the choir include students, staff and faculty from Nipissing University and Canadore College as well as members from the North Bay community. The 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc will be shown during the concert.

Tickets $20.00 are available at Gulliver's, Kennedy Gallery and at the door.

Art By Chance is a brand new Ultra Short Film Festival that aired May-June-July 2009 in 13 countries and in over 70 cities around the world for the first time and was viewed by more than 1 billion people worldwide.
ART BY CHANCE-10 will take place in May 2010 in several countries and cities around the world again. ART BY CHANCE submission is now open forTIME themed 30 second films!

NEW SPACE OPEN

Thanks to everyone who came out to the N2M2L Relaunch Party on Friday night! A special thanks to all of our Performers: M. Night Magicforce, The Dining Dead and the White Coals.

If you havn't already had the chance, come by and check out our newly renovated space under the Kennedy Gallery in the Capitol Centre with 2 full editing suites and a screening room with a video projector and surround sound!

N2M2L RELAUNCH PARTY

The Near North Mobile Media Lab is hosting our Relaunch Party on the 18th of December to celebrate the official opening of our newly renovated space and our brand new website! The night will feature live acoustic music, free food, drinks, tours of our new space and DJ and VJ entertainment. You don't want to miss this holiday event! $5 at the door for non-members and free for members!
